Location: 16 York Street, Toronto, Ontario
Set against the striking glass façade of 16 York Street in downtown Toronto, the fountain courtyard offers a seamless blend of contemporary urban design and vibrant greenery. At the heart of the space, a sleek, linear water feature runs parallel to the building, with choreographed jets that add movement, sound, and visual interest to the plaza.
Lining the fountain, Hauser Site Furniture’s custom Terrace planters make a bold and elegant statement. Crafted from durable, powder-coated aluminum, these extra-long, rectangular planters are finished in a Slate Black, grounding the space with a clean, modern edge. Each planter is densely planted with a layered mix of low-growing foliage, flowering annuals, and upright evergreens, creating a lush and structured look that mirrors the architectural rhythm of the surrounding towers.
The planters not only introduce greenery but also function as organic dividers—softening the stone hardscape and guiding pedestrian movement through the space. Their generous proportions and streamlined profile support a formal planting arrangement, evoking a garden-like feel within this urban setting.
Adding a whimsical touch, bright green bear sculptures interact playfully with the environment, peeking out between the planters or standing curiously near the water’s edge. These pops of color and character bring a sense of approachability and surprise to the otherwise refined atmosphere.
Together, the fountain, planters, and sculptures create a destination—offering visual delight, places to pause, and a memorable blend of structure and spontaneity in the heart of the city.
